For this project, I was working in collaboration with the Yorkshire Museum to design an Interactive Media prototype for one of their exhibits to make it more enjoyable for the project. I undertook user research through questionnaires and observations, and further used these findings in user journey maps and personas, along with some research into other museum projects.
I finally decided to focus my project on the Statue of `Mars in the entrance of the museum, as there was very little information about it, but it would actually have been brightly coloured, which was not made clear to the public. Therefore, I created an exhibit using projection mapping, whereby the visitors could choose the colours of the statue and have these projected on in real-time with the help of an app.
User Research
My first approach to User Research was to observe visitors at the Yorkshire Museum. I collaborated on this research with another student, as this way we were able to conduct more research without any worry of missing visitors through the museum being too busy. I took note of how old each visitor was, and made brief notes on what they seemed to spend the most time on, while the other student looked into what group sizes were in the museum in order to gauge how likely it was that multiple people would be viewing our projects at once. We found that the average user was between the age of 31 and 40, and were mostly in a pair.
